Waylane Story: Miraculous Healing
Hi! My name is Kat and I am a 25 year old wife, hair stylist, Nashville native, and LOVER of King Jesus. Most people would look at me and say I am your typical gal with an average life, but WOW what God has done in and through me is supernaturally so much more than average! Revelation 12:11 says "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." I pray that through this testimony the Holy Spirit illuminates you in fresh ways to God's miraculous healing power!
In 2014, I was a junior in high school doing the regular American high school girl life- playing sports and doing as many social activities as I could fit into my day! I was voted the most athletic in my school playing three sports and winning a state championship, but somehow I was still physically behind my teammates during drills. This frustrated me so much that after a 3 hour practice, I would go run miles and miles to get in better shape to keep up with my peers. Nothing was working and I felt defeated. One normal day during class, I felt faint and started falling out of my chair. Thankfully I made it to the nurse in time and realized my heart rate was way too low. To our surprise, shortly after this event, I found out I had a hole in my heart and needed to have surgery soon. Of course this put my high school sports career on hold, but my cardiologist said either put the sports career on hold or be at risk of strokes by the age of 25. So a few weeks later, I had a device put into my heart that closed the hole. During surgery the surgeons found many other little holes, but only focused on closing the main one. They said they would monitor the other holes over the years and put me on a blood thinner. When I went back for my six week post op, my cardiologist said, "Now whenever you get married and want to have kids we can have another conversation about a game plan for the risks due to your heart." This meant nothing to me as a 17 year old. Little did I know a few months later I would start dating my husband, Bobby!
In 2019, I started having some chest pain and immediately got concerned that something had happened to the device in my heart or that the other holes got bigger. The day I had an appointment scheduled I had my community pray and cry out to the Lord that nothing was wrong. I scheduled an appointment to get it checked out and typically had to wait 1-2 weeks to hear any results. That afternoon of my appointment a nurse called me and said, "We do not know how this happened or why you had any chest pain, because every single one of the holes in your heart are closed now. I cannot explain it but your heart looks amazing." We were STUNNED and in awe of God closing those holes and healing me of any more pain!
Fast forward a few years, in 2021 my husband and I start thinking about the future of growing our family. I remembered that comment my cardiologist made to me in 2017 and thought, we need to chat with them before we start trying for a baby. I scheduled an appointment to get everything checked out and figured it would all be perfect! A few weeks later a nurse called and told me I had pulmonary hypertension and it might be too risky to ever get pregnant. We were crushed. We went in to have a conversation and they told me I needed to have a procedure done to see how bad my condition was. The doctor did not seem optimistic and told us to consider other options to grow our family. He mentioned that the pressure in my heart was too high and told us the levels would be around 40-45 which is too risky in pregnancy. Bobby asked what numbers are normal and safe for pregnancy, and he replied "under 30." My husband took that phrase and ran with it, and had our community fasting and praying for "under 30." My procedure was scheduled to be 2-3 hours long, but 30 minutes into it, the surgeon calls Bobby and tells him to come up to the post op room. Of course he was thinking the worst and terrified something had happened. He and my mom came into the room and I vaguely remember waking up and seeing the three of them standing there. The surgeon looks at Bobby and says, "Do you want to tell her?" He looks at me and says, "God did it. Your heart is perfect and they didn't even have to continue with the procedure." My mom asked if this was a normal occurrence and the surgeon replied, "No, we can't explain it, we haven't seen anything like it." Tears started welling up in my eyes and Bobby asked the surgeon what my levels were (really praying for that "under 30"). He looked at us and said, "we were expecting an average of 40, but her levels were at a 23. Crying and overjoyed, I went home and had almost no recovery. Weeks later I visit my cardiologist, he hands us his phone number and says, "Call me when you get pregnant! So happy for you guys."
Here we are- 20 weeks away from meeting our firstborn son, Zack. Which means "the Lord laughs" and "the Lord remembers." When the doctors told me it might not be possible for me to get pregnant, the Lord laughed and remembered a word he spoke to me years before ever getting pregnant about being a mom. We are overwhelmingly blessed that God healed me TWICE, and showed his great power through an average girl like me. Jehovah Rapha, "God our Healer" has radically healed in the past and continues to do so! May He be so honored and glorified through this testimony and through our lives. He is worthy.
